Description

Through the many courses at the Summer Peacebuilding Institute, staff in your organizations can:

  • Gain skills and knowledge to decrease violence and conflict.
  • Share experiences and learn with colleagues from more than 30 countries.
  • Learn to promote peace in your community, country, office, or home.
  • Learn to increase the satisfaction of your employees, customers, clients, and the community(ies) you serve.

The Institute consists of four short-term, intensive sessions, each with several courses to choose from.

In session one, May 4 - 12, 2015, you and/or your staff can take one of the following courses:

Analysis: Understanding Conflict: Explore the nature, dynamics, and complex causes of conflict and violence. Discuss relationships, motivations, culture, and worldviews. Learn ways to change systems that perpetuate conflict.

Faith-Based Peacebuilding: Identify sources of conflict and resources for peacebuilding within and between religions. Discuss several successful faith-based peacebuilding initiatives. Develop your capacity for interfaith engagement.

Building Civil Society Movements: Strategic Nonviolent Activism and Advocacy: Use negotiation, mediation, and dialogue to structure decision-making and strategic planning processes to build successful social change coalitions.

Restorative Justice: the Promise, the Challenge: Discuss this alternative to the criminal justice system’s focus on punishment. Identify needs and roles of key stakeholders in crimes or violence (victims, offenders, communities, and justice systems).

Visit our website at www.emu.edu/spi for a full list of courses in all four sessions and to apply online.

The Summer Peacebuilding Institute runs from May 4 to June 12, 2015.
